Window Pane Mirror

If you have read my previous post about antiques, you know all about my love for old things. They have character, a story, and stand apart from mass-produced items. Some items are wonderful just as they are, and some are enhanced with a little innovation. One of these items — and the subject of this post — is an old window pane from a shed on my parents' farm. It is a weathered, vintage statement piece without any additional work. However, I wanted to bring a little dimension to it so I converted it from a window pane with glass to a window pane with mirrors. The project was rather simple.

Step 1: Remove the existing glass.
Step 2: Measure the areas where the glass was.
Step 3: Order custom-cut mirrors from a hardware store.
Step 4: Place the mirror pieces within the pane and lock in place with nails.
Step 5: Spruce up the wood ... I removed the excess red pain and white-washed the areas that were lacking in paint coverage.
Step 6: Add a sawtooth picture hanger on the backside of the pane.

And done! Ta-da! It is always fun having a little piece of the farm in our home. Here's a few photos of the "mirror"!
