Five years on Glacier Drive
Five years ago, we got the keys to our first home. Buying this house turned out to be one of the best decisions we've made in our life together so far. Our two-story home not only came with three and a half baths, five bedrooms and a quarter-acre lot, it came with a neighborhood of great people. We never could have imagined the friendships we'd build with the people around us. I think a little fate and luck brought us to Glacier Drive. Half of our neighbors are from NW Iowa like us, many grew up on farms, too, and all of them enjoy drinking a cocktail after work on Friday!
I can clearly remember seeing the listing for the house online, almost immediately after we decided we'd start looking for a home. I showed Ryan the listing and said, isn't this one nice?! He (surprisingly) agreed, and we decided to make an appointment with a realtor. From there, things moved very quickly. We looked at it, as well as two other homes, on a Monday, made an offer by that Wednesday and had the keys to the house within a month.
Over the past five years, we've done things here and there to the house to make it feel like our home. We've painted roughly half of the rooms, made cosmetic updates to the kitchen and added landscaping to the backyard. I've never considered anywhere I've lived, except my parents' house, "home" ... until we bought this house. It truly is home - down to the scent it has - that we can only smell when we return from a weekend away. I love sharing memories with family and friends within the walls of this house.
We couldn't be happier about living here on Glacier Drive, in our beautiful home, surrounded by people we can count on. We don't plan to leave in the foreseeable future, unless Ryan's career relocates us. Ironically, tonight, I heard the song titled Home by Blue October on my way to the gym and some of the lyrics really hit home (no pun intended).
We found Our home
Something we can build for years
The young
And old
I'll be there to wipe your tears
We all get to see
Who we grow up to be
And anchor when in doubt
An ocean when in drought
We aim for it all
We lift of these walls
To make this house our home
